Barking Dogs

The
bad news of the year 2024 was the return of Big Mouth to absolute
power. It is annoying to those of us who prefer modesty and reason, but
in principle it is also meant like this: as a provocative nuisance.
Let's hope for the robustness of the US american constitution. There is
no other way than letting a barking dog bark. Exchanging arguments will
just prolong the barking.

Why
did it come like this? Why prefers a majority of the US society a
rascal in position one, exhibiting anti-social behavior, pre-disposed
to taking incalculable risks like a reckless gambler? The answer is
easy: because a majority not only of the US society secretly admires
such behavior. If they for themselves have not the guts to follow such
a dream, at least their idol must have their permission to do what the
hell he ever wants to do.

They
do not care about politics, climate crisis, wild fires, refugees, wars;
they just care for entertainment. And they have the remarkable
confidence in four entertaining years ahead, with no negative
consequences. They will need a lot of luck, like any risk-preferring
gambler does. Are they aware that not only their fate is on stake? The
truth is, that they are not aware of anything beyond the tip of their
nose.

But
they are our conspecifics. To some degree, we all have the same
pre-disposition to anti-social behavior. Their anger may to some degree
react to our hubris of being better than them. But are we? I fear, in
many ways we are not. Even if we aspire to modesty and reason, most of
us lead a rather careless life. Maybe we all needed this wake-up call.

So,
let Big Mouth bark around, he will get tired if he finds no one barking
back. I have the habit to turn down the radio for a minute whenever he
is mentioned. And when it's over, let's sit together and find serious
solutions to get through this 21st century without too much disaster.
